The Vision of Hawk

For the past twenty-five years, international documentary photographer and explorer Daryl Hawk has traveled alone to some of the most remote and isolated places in the world telling stories with his camera. Hawk spends months at a time documenting and immersing himself in the different cultures and landscapes.

With a visually interpretive style, Hawk tries to capture the heart and soul of a country on film, depicting the characteristics of the landscape and the timeless human moments and the passions of the people. "I like looking for wild country to be young in where my mind can run free and fast with the constant visual stimulation I experience from dawn to dusk - always seeking and searching for something new and different."

Hawk is also a travel writer, entrepreneur and lecturer whose articles and photographs often appear in magazines worldwide. He has also been featured on NBC's Today Show and FOX 5 television. He is a member of the Explorers Club, founded in New York City in 1904 promoting the exploration of land, sea, air and space. He is also a fellow of The Royal Geographical Society in England.

Hawk is also the host and producer of the Cablevision television show The Unconventional Traveler which features some of the world's leading explorers, travel photographers and filmmakers sharing their work from various expeditions and documentaries. The Unconventional Traveler can be seen every Tuesday night at 9 P.M. on Channel 77. He has produced over 100 shows in the last 10 years.

Since the 1970's, Mr. Hawk has also photographed the woods, waters and small towns of New England using primarily black and white film. He has also taken his camera to the streets of Manhattan documenting the people, landscapes and buildings that reveal New York's true character.

He also runs a full-service studio in Wilton, CT, specializing in wedding, corporate, portrait, editorial, and advertising photography since 1985. Some of his clients include General Electric, Nikon, Fuji, Deloite & Touche, The Travel Channel, Apple Computer, Olin, Chesebrough-Ponds and tourist boards worldwide.

Daryl Hawk is the author of the recently published book, "Distant Journeys." This is a 25 year retrospective of 153 color photographs taken throughout North, Central, and South America, the Arctic, Antarctica, Patagonia, New Zealand, and Bhutan.

His most recent book, "Quiet Moments," includes Hawk's favorite 120 black and white photographs taken over the past 25 years. Nature and nautical landscapes and abstracts, New York City scenes, and misc. travel landscapes and portraits are all featured in this custom printed hardcover book.
